High Holidays 5771 Information Page

Located just minutes from Baltimore's spectacular Inner Harbor, our historic 136-year-old B'nai Israel Synagogue, the longest continually operated modern Orthodox synagogue in Maryland, is a friendly 200-member congregation that welcomes newcomers to join in services, ask questions, and explore our wide range of activities. We are a place where Jews of all backgrounds can feel at home. Our Rabbi Alan Yuter is a master of the Q and A.

The Synagogue's unique architecture, which inspires and uplifts us in prayer and is the focus of docent-led tours that attract scores of people, has become the backdrop to a creative array of Jewish educational, spiritual, and social programs for the Baltimore Jewish Community – and especially for area residents of the Baltimore Harbor communities of Federal Hill, Canton, Fells Point, Butchers Hill, Mount Vernon, East Harbor and surrounding areas.

B'nai Israel regularly plays host to those visiting for business, pleasure and health reasons and provides a welcoming, supportive atmosphere and comfortable religious services for Jews of all backgrounds.

We're proud to have the largest Modern Orthodox Young Adult Group in Baltimore.

French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal, wrote of the Jewish people , “It is certain that in certain parts of the world we can see a peculiar people, separated from the other peoples of the world and this is called the Jewish people…. This people is not only of remarkable antiquity but has also lasted for a singularly long time… For where as the people of Greece and Italy, of Sparta, Athens and Rome and others who came so much later have perished so long ago, these still exist, despite the efforts of so many powerful kings who have tried a hundred times to wipe them out, as their historians testify, and as can easily be judged by the natural order of things over such a long spell of years. They have always been preserved, however, and their preservation was foretold… My encounter with this people amazes me…."..............and thus our name "B'nai Israel Congregation".
